In connection with the International Coastal Cleanup Day on September 21, the next coastal cleanup action was organized by the Azerbaijan Operating Company COP29, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Public Union of “Regional Development” (RIIB).
Oku.Az reports that more than 100 participants, including volunteers from the Lankaran branch of the Public Union for Regional Development, together with volunteers from COP29, took part in the coastal clean-up action that took place on the Lankaran coast of the Caspian Sea. As part of the clean-up campaign, more than 1 km of the coastline was cleared of plastic and other debris.
The 1,100 kilograms of collected waste were handed over to Lankaran City Development Department for disposal. At the same time, as in previous clean-up events, information on the amount of waste collected this time was entered into the global database of the non-commercial environmental protection group “Ocean Conservancy”.
Let us add that representatives of the Department of Ecological Monitoring of the Caspian Complex of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, who participated in the environmental event, informed the volunteers about the current ecological situation of the Caspian Sea, waste disposal, especially the impact on the underwater ecosystem if it is not managed properly, and answered their questions on the topic.
