The opening ceremony of the Ministerial Forum on Advanced Green Management was held within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
The report informs that the event was jointly organized by the Presidential State Agency for Citizen Service and Social Innovation, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and “Apolitical Group Limited”.
The opening ceremony was attended by the president of the state agency Ulvi Mehdiyev, the deputy secretary general of the UN, the executive secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Armida Salsiah Aliscahbana, the director general of ICESCO Salim bin Muhammad Al -Malik, the CEO of “Apolitical Group Limited”, Robin Scott, and Zamir Iqbal, vice president of the Islamic Development Bank, spoke.
Salim bin Mohammed al-Malik, Director General of ICESCO, said during his speech that reducing carbon emissions and protecting key natural resources are essential to ensure environmental sustainability in the first place.
He said that ICESCO complies with international agreements in cooperation with member countries and develops programs to ensure water security in member countries:
“Implementing the green cities program and informing the public about environmental impacts is a top priority.”
Armida Salsiah Aliscahbana, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, said today’s forum provides an important platform to discuss and agree on how to more productively implement the dual pathways of transformation. green and digital. in association.
He said digital technologies provide practical tools for climate adaptation and disaster resilience through digital solutions that increase efficiency in climate action and reduce emissions.
According to the UN official, it is necessary to take advantage of the contribution that new technologies can make to a deeper and more complete understanding of the root causes of climate challenges. To achieve this, it is important to support the public sector with effective policies and platforms.
At the end of his speech, the guest thanked Azerbaijan for hosting COP29.
Islamic Development Bank Vice President Zamir Iqbal said the forum is not only a meeting of stakeholders passionate about the planet, but also an opportunity to make a difference to the environment by contributing to solving the challenges posed by climate change. .
He noted that COP29 represents a critical moment in global climate efforts, especially in terms of financing climate action:
“This provides an important opportunity for the Islamic Development Bank Group to explain its role in the broader process of sustainable development in its member countries. Multilateral development banks are already playing an important role in helping countries create ecosystems “more sustainable food products through climate-friendly agriculture and reduce future vulnerabilities.”
The Forum brought together representatives of governments, international organizations, leading experts and academics to promote interactive dialogue and cooperation. In total, the heads of seven international organizations and relevant ministries from about 20 countries and representatives of various companies and research institutes participated in the forum.
The speakers highlighted the importance of international cooperation to expand green technologies, develop advanced management and adapt public services to the environment and social sustainability. It was highlighted how innovative models such as the “ASAN service” model can contribute to sustainable infrastructure, the promotion of inclusion and international cooperation to respond to climate change.
The main discussions were increasing the skills of public officials to ensure sustainability and efficiency in green management, integrating public service development processes with global climate objectives and innovative approaches in this context.
