Cordoba wants to become a reference for the new universe of visual poetry

The party Poemex was born in Córdoba with the aim of being a reference in visual poetry in Spain and becoming a meeting and reflection point for creators of this creative discipline and for fans from all over the country.

The new cultural cycle, which will open on November 23, is organized by the collectives No one and I would prefer not to do it and through the Boek Visual digital platform and with the support of The town hall of Cordoba and with the sponsorship of the Cajasur Foundation, who were represented this Thursday at the launch of the festival by the Councilor for Culture and Historical Heritage of the Consistory, Isabel Albás, and the director of the Foundation, Leopoldo Izquierdo.

Nièves Galiot and designer Pedro Peinado, curators of Poemx with Juan Bolaños, Amador Esteban and Rafael Obrero, explained that now the selection of the work of the ten artists which can then be appreciated in different spaces in the city and which will form “a living gallery” for several days.

The works will be chosen by a swearor composed of three proven visual poets and will be complemented by the creation of an “in situ” work in the streets of Córdoba by a group of creators specialized in this creative discipline.

The selected artists, who can present their works until November 3, will receive financial compensation of 300 euros. The regulations and the system for submitting applications are now available on the festival website.

Programming

The objective of the organizers, as they explained, is to ensure that “the spirit of the Poemx festival is maintained in Córdoba throughout the year through various activities such as meetings, forums of reflection or exhibitions, in order to establish networks between creators and cultural institutions and contacts between artists dedicated to visual poetry and those from other disciplines.

They also announced that the festival would address a different theme each year and that for this year “it was decided that the works presented at the festival would be structured around the motto ‘En passant’ and more particularly the tourism“. The name Poemx comes from a work by Belgian visual poet and writer Alain Arias-Missom.

The municipal delegate for Culture and Historical Heritage of Córdoba City Hall, Isabel Albás, explained that “this festival reinforces the diversity of cultural proposals, enriches the range of possibilities and maintains the role of Córdoba in poetry”.

The director of the Cajasur Foundation, Leopoldo Izquierdo, recalled that one of the objectives of the entity is to invest in the cultural field “to projects “new”, as is the case with this new festival. Izquierdo explained “that this proposal has different elements that make it very attractive” in the context of the events in which the institution participates.
