Court investigates emails asking Navarrese companies to replace ‘immigrant’ workers with ‘national’ ones

The court is investigating as a hate crime emails sent anonymously by a person to different Navarrese companies in which he asked them to replace “immigrant” workers with “national” workers. Several of these companies reported the events to the Assistance Service against Racism and Xenophobia (SARX), dependent on the Government of Navarre, which in turn reported the information to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The Public Prosecutor’s Office, after investigating the facts, filed a complaint that was forwarded to the Court of Instruction number 1 of Pamplona, where it is trying to identify the author of the emails.

In the emails sent anonymously to several companies, including a residence in Estella, it was requested that, “in the face of a possible economic reactivation” after the pandemic, the workforce be “nationalized”. To do this, the author of the email indicated how such action should be carried out, namely “replacing immigrants with nationals” or, in the case of “increasing the workforce, hiring only nationals”. Likewise, the text adds: “Obviously none of them are Moroccan”, a phrase in which the Prosecutor’s Office sees a clear “express and energetic racist rejection of Moroccan nationals”, which is why it decided to report the facts.

But the message does not end there. The next paragraph contained a threat against companies if they did not respond to their complaints. “We already know which companies have too many foreigners and with this information, lists of companies have been drawn up by sector so that people know who they are employing with their money. Contracting is free, but so is consumption,” the message reads.

As this newspaper has learned, an internal investigation by the SARX revealed that this person had been sending this threatening email to companies and social entities at least since 2017. In addition, some of these companies reported receiving the message up to ten times during this period. a period of three years. It was this attention service, dependent on the Department of Migration Policies of the Government of Navarra, that brought the facts to the attention of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which after analysis forwarded it in the form of a complaint to the court where it is currently being investigated.
