Cryptocurrency mining will be limited in the North Caucasus

The restriction on cryptocurrency mining in the North Caucasus was approved by the government commission for the development of the electrical industry, Kavkaz Pravda reports.

Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Evgeny Grabchak confirmed that the government commission for the development of the electrical industry supported all proposals of the Ministry of Energy and heads of constituent entities to ban mining in several regions.

Mining will be prohibited from December in the Irkutsk region, in certain parts of the Republic of Buryatia and in the Trans-Baikal Territory. Production will also be limited in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, Kabardino-Balkaria, North Ossetia, Ingushetia, Chechnya and Dagestan. What these restrictions are and who will control them has not yet been fully determined.

Former head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov He called for a ban on mining in the territory of the republic. He signed an appeal to the Russian government calling for a ban on cryptocurrency mining on the territory of the republic, taking into account the increasing load on the power grid.

The sharp increase in energy consumption in Dagestan, 26% in three years, is associated not only with economic growth, but also with the uncontrolled development of cryptocurrency mining in Dagestan.

“The so-called mining farms cause even greater electricity shortages, which affects the quality and reliability of energy supply to consumers in Dagestan,” – says the appeal.
