Quesos Artesanos Villarejo reaffirmed its leading position in the international cheese sector by obtaining 5 medals in the 36th edition of the World Cheese Awards 2024, organized in Viseu (Portugal)from November 14 to 17. This prestigious competition, considered one of the most important in the world, brought together 4,784 cheeses from 47 countries, evaluated by an international jury made up of 250 experts from nearly 40 nationalities.
The winners, as reported by Quesos Artesanos Villarejo, are as follows:
-Semi-ripened Manchego cheese ‘Our Lady of Fuentes’ (Gold Medal): This cheese, made with La Mancha sheep’s milk and a meticulous maturing process, won over the jury with its balance of flavor and texture.
-Mature cheese with rosemary ‘Villarejo Romarin’ (Gold Medal): a cheese that combines the intensity of maturation with the aromatic touch of rosemary, achieving a unique experience that stood out among hundreds of participants.
– Ripened cheese with thyme ‘Villarejo’ (Bronze Medal): This artisanal cheese, enriched with the natural aroma of thyme, surprised the jury with its authentic flavor and distinctive character.
-Mature Manchego cheese ‘Our Lady of Fuentes’ (Bronze Medal): A classic from Quesos Villarejo that reaffirms its place among the best Manchego cheeses in the world, thanks to its firm texture and intense flavor.
-Mature cheese with ‘Villarejo’ butter (Bronze Medal): This cheese, matured in butter to give it smoothness and depth of flavor, captured the attention of the jury for its softness and distinctive character.
In addition to his exceptional participation in the competition, Quesos Artesanos Villarejo was present at the festival with its own standwhere he presented his wide range of artisanal products to professionals in the sector and to the public present, thus strengthening his presence in the international market and sharing his passion for the cheese tradition of La Mancha.
The World Cheese Awards, organized by “The Guild of Fine Food”are an annual event that brings together cheese producers, experts and amateurs from around the world. In this edition, organized for the first time in Portugal, a record participation was reached with 4,784 cheeses in competition, making it the largest in the history of the competition.
The jury, made up of professionals of different nationalities, evaluated each cheese based on its texture, aroma, flavor and appearance, awarding gold, silver and bronze medals to the most outstanding.
This new success adds to a series of recognitions obtained by Quesos Artesanos Villarejo in previous editions, highlighting its ability to remain at the top of the international cheese scene. This success reinforces the company’s commitment to innovation and respect for the traditions that have defined its history.
