The Czech Republic will not seek an extension of benefits that exempt the country from the EU ban on imports of petroleum products from Russia. This was reported by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the Republic on November 25.
“In the context of the current situation and the measures that the Czech Republic is taking to ensure its independence from Russian oil imports, the Czech Republic sees no reason why preferential conditions should be extended.” – said the press secretary of the department. Marek Woshalik.
Recall that after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, the EU countries decided to abandon Russian hydrocarbons. The ban on the supply of Russian oil products was approved as part of the sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russia. At the same time, an exception was made for the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, but preferential conditions for Prague expire on December 5, 2024. Czech authorities hope to get rid of dependence on Russian oil by expanding the TAL pipeline, which capacity Oil transportation to the Czech Republic should double from next year to 8 million tons per year.
