Dana keeps Catalonia and the Balearic Islands on alert due to heavy showers and storms

The approach of an isolated high-altitude depression (dana) to the northeast of the peninsula will maintain instability today in the eastern third of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, and will destabilise the northern third, with showers and storms in some areas, and an increase in maximum temperatures in some regions and a decrease in minimum temperatures in general.

According to the forecasts of the National Meteorological Agency (AEMET), although there is uncertainty about the position of the dana, it will leave showers and storms, locally strong, on the coasts of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, which will move towards the east of the Catalan region; and from the extreme southeast, they will move towards the Levant and the east of Castilla-La Mancha.

In some areas of Catalonia, the alert is at orange level for this Thursday due to coastal phenomena and rain, while in the Balearic Islands and in the areas of Murcia and Albacete, the alert is at yellow level.

In the northern and eastern third there will be mists and fogs, and precipitation will be recorded that will extend from west to east, and will be abundant in the Cantabrian Sea, even locally heavy at the end, without excluding that they affect the surrounding areas up to Aragon; while in the rest of the country the sky will be slightly cloudy or high clouds.

In the north of the Canary Islands, cloudy periods are expected, with a low probability of light precipitation on the mountainous islands, with little change in temperature and a moderate trade wind, as well as possible light mist in Melilla and Almería.

Maximum temperatures will increase in the centre-east and west of Catalonia, and will decrease in the north-west third, the south-east third and in the Empordà. Minimum temperatures will decrease in general – and the first frosts may occur on the peaks of the Pyrenees – except in the south-west where they will increase.

In the northeast of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, the winds will blow from the northwest, moving from the south-southeast; there will be east in Alborán and west in the strait that rolls towards the east; It will have south and west components in the southwest and variable in the rest. Strong intervals are expected in the Ampurdán and under the Ebro.

Here are the forecasts of the Autonomous Communities:

– GALICIA: Mists and possibility of scattered fog in high areas. Cloudy and overcast, opening clearly to the west; Light rain on the Cantabrian coast that will extend, accompanied by scattered showers, to the rest of the northern half and the mountainous areas of Orense. Falling temperatures, more pronounced in the maximums. Light and moderate winds.

– ASTURIAS: Mists and possible scattered fog in the high areas of the Cordillera. Cloudy and overcast opening in the western half, with light rain that will be accompanied by some scattered showers and even an occasional thunderstorm on the coast. Falling temperatures, more pronounced in the maximums. Light to moderate winds, more intense on the coast.

– CANTABRIA: Mists and possible scattered fog in the high areas of the interior. Cloudy and overcast, with light rain, which will be accompanied by scattered showers, and could be locally heavy, or even occasional thunderstorms on the coast. Falling temperatures, more pronounced in the maximums. Light variable and moderate winds decreasing to light.

– EUSKADI: Mists and possible scattered fog in the high inland areas. Cloudy and overcast, with light rain accompanied by scattered showers that could be locally heavy. Falling temperatures, more pronounced in the maximums. Light variable winds inland and moderate winds decreasing to light from the west and northwest on the coast.

– CASTILLA Y LEÓN: in the northern third, cloudy with probable light precipitation, especially in the mountains. For the rest, slightly cloudy, with abundant clouds of medium and high altitude. Temperatures decreasing, except the maximums in the south and southeast, where they could increase slightly. Winds from the northeast and north, decreasing to variable, weak.

– NAVARRE: fog and possibility of scattered fog in the high areas of the northern third. Cloudy and overcast in the northern half and cloudy or with cloudy intervals in the south, with light rain in the northern third that will extend towards the south accompanied by scattered showers. Falling temperatures. Light winds with a predominance of the northern component.

– LA RIOJA: fog banks in mountainous areas and cloudy passages without excluding some scattered showers. Minimum temperatures slightly lower, and maximum temperatures unchanged, or even slightly higher, especially in the mountains. Winds from the northwest or north, decreasing at the end to weak variables.

– ARAGON: in the Pyrenees, cloudy or overcast with probability of light precipitation. For the rest, cloudy passages, increasing to cloudy in the Iberian system, with probable showers occasionally with thunderstorms, without excluding scattered showers in the rest. Minimum temperatures decreasing or unchanged; maximums increasing or unchanged. Moderate and light variable wind.

– CATALONIA: in the north-east quadrant, cloudy passages with occasional showers with thunderstorms on the coast and not excluded inland. In the rest, intervals of medium and high clouds. – EXTREMADURA: slightly cloudy sky, with intervals of high clouds. Temperatures unchanged. Winds from the east first then from the west, weak.

– MADRID COMMUNITY: Slightly cloudy, with intervals of high clouds becoming cloudy in the north. Minimum temperatures in the descent, which will be light or unchanged in the Sierra and maximum with little change. Light northeast wind tending to be variable.

– CASTILLA-LA MANCHA: Morning mists and fog patches are likely in some areas. Partly cloudy with intervals of high, medium and low clouds, increasing the evolving cloudiness and being covered by low clouds. Showers are likely accompanied by a thunderstorm. Temperatures decreasing or with little change. Winds from light to light variable and moderate.

– COMUNITAT VALENCIANA: cloudy passages with occasional showers with thunderstorms in the interior of the northern half, probable in the rest of the interior and not excluded in case of isolation on the coast. Minimum temperatures falling; maximums descending, slightly rising or without changes. Moderate wind, with intervals of strong and moderate light variable.

– REGION OF MURCIA: morning mists. Very cloudy, with probable scattered showers, without excluding that they are locally heavy in the eastern half of the Region. Minimum temperatures with little change; decreasing maximums. Light to moderate winds from the southeast.

– BALEARIC ISLANDS: cloudy periods, with the probability of occasional showers which, preferably in Menorca and the north of Mallorca, could be accompanied by a thunderstorm and be locally strong. Temperatures slightly lower. Moderate northerly wind, tending to be variable with coastal breezes.

– ANDALUSIA: slightly cloudy or clear, with intervals of high clouds and evolving cloudiness; low cloudy passages on the Mediterranean coast, without excluding light scattered precipitation in the extreme East. Moderate wind, more intense on the south-east and north-west slopes.
