The National Meteorological Agency (AEMET) extended the orange alert for rain and storms this Friday to the entire Balearic archipelago. Currently, DANA has discharged more than 100 liters per square meter in western Mallorca and is expected to spread across much of the island.
Until 5:00 p.m. this Friday, Emergencies handled a total of 50 incidents, all in Mallorca, caused by the passage of DANA. The majority is due to flooding on public roads (14) and in basements (16).
The Majorca firefighters, for their part, have recorded 32 interventions, of which 24 have already been resolved. The municipalities with the most incidents are Llucmajor, Bunyola and Calvià. The Llucmajor, Inca, Sóller and Calvià parks are involved in these incidents.
Alert until tomorrow
AEMET spokesperson Rubén del Campo called for caution, as flooding and inundation can occur in low-lying areas. The agency predicts that in a few hours, between 120 and 150 liters per square meter could accumulate across the archipelago.
The alert in Mallorca began this Friday at 10:00 a.m., while in Menorca it begins at 4:00 p.m. Both alerts will be in effect until Saturday morning. Indeed, from tomorrow, the instability will continue with showers over the archipelago. For its part, in Ibiza and Formentera, it will be valid until 7:49 p.m. this Friday.
The AEMET spokesperson assures that, for Sunday and Monday, it is foreseeable that DANA will disappear and that the situation will be more stable. However, showers will persist in the islands, as well as in other regions of Spain (Valencian Community, Catalonia and Detroit).
The Balearic Government also launched this Friday the recommendation to citizens not to leave their homes. “Everyone home. “A lot of caution in the coming hours,” asked the regional executive in a message on social networks.
Calvià, one of the most affected municipalities
One of the most affected Majorcan municipalities is Calvià. DANA caused flooding, street closures and landslides on roads.
The heavy rains caused traffic interruption due to the flooding of the Galatzó torrent on the Molí Nou de Son Colomar road, which affects a section of the Ma-1015 (Calvià-Es Capdellà) and the junction with the Can road. Stadiums.
In Palmanova and Magaluf, there are cuts on Punta Ballena Street in its access from Magaluf Avenue, on Duque de Estremera Street in its section between Pedro Vaquer Ramis Street and Paseo del Mar, and on Avenue Las Palmeras between Calle Galeón and Avenue La Porrassa.
In El Toro and Son Ferrer, the Cala Figuera al Toro road is closed in its section from the Neptuno street roundabout to its section from roundabout 9 with Tudó street. From Son Ferrer you can only go in the direction of Magaluf.
Also in El Toro, a collapse was recorded on the road leading to Port Adriano, to which firefighters and local police intervened.

This Friday, Palma is expected to record 522 movements, Ibiza, 120 and Menorca, 48.
Emergency plan activated
Faced with this situation, the 112 emergency service activated severity index 1 (IG1) of the weather plan due to rain and storms. Emergency situations have called on the population to exercise caution in the face of what they describe as a “complicated day”.
IG1 is activated when meteorological information makes it possible to predict the imminence of an unfavorable phenomenon with a high probability of risk for people and property and is declared in the situation in which an unfavorable phenomenon may occur in localized areas, whose attention can be ensured with the means and resources available in the affected areas, but with supra-municipal monitoring. This alert level includes a media mobilization pre-alert.
The authorities have asked the population to be cautious about possible celebrations of All Saints’ Day. In this sense, they recommended that citizens plan visits to cemeteries based on the weather and take extreme precautions. Town halls like Palma have established different measures, such as closing the cemetery from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
You must also be careful at home – it is advisable to close doors and windows and stay in high areas of the house -, remove from the outside everything that can be washed away by water and move the valuables – medicines, documents, food. , drinking water, etc. – to high places.
It is advisable to avoid basements or low areas – such as garages -, unplug the main switch if water has already entered the house, stay away from torrents and areas prone to flooding and to avoid traveling by car. If driving is essential, the speed should be moderate and the safety distance increased. This must be done on highways, highways and main roads. In the event of poor visibility, the vehicle must be stopped and its position reported.
Do not enter areas prone to flooding, even if there appears to be little water, because with low water, cars float and are easily washed away. If the car begins to float and is dragged, you must immediately exit the vehicle and, if this is not possible through the door, you must do so through the window.
In these cases, it is advisable to abandon the vehicle and move to higher areas in case the car is immobilized by water or the water level already reaches the axle. They also advise having a charged cell phone and sufficient fuel in the vehicle and not parking on bridges, sidewalks or inlets. In case of emergency, you must call 112.
