DANA threatens this Wednesday with heavy and persistent rains and storms in all the Balearic Islands as well as in coastal and pre-coastal areas of the Mediterranean.
Precipitation may become very heavy. and even torrential rains with accumulated quantities that could exceed 200 liters on the coasts of Malaga and Granada, to the west of the Balearic Islands and in the Mediterranean strip between the Ebro delta and the Cape of Nao.
In the Balearic Islands, in particular, overcast skies are expected, with showers that can be heavy or very heavy and sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms, although in the afternoon they will tend to cloudy intervals with the probability of some occasional and isolated showers.
Minimum temperatures will not change and maximum temperatures will increase. The wind from the east and northeast will be moderate, although with strong intervals and gusts which, in Ibiza and Formentera, could exceed 70 km/h in the early morning, indicated Efe.
Maximum temperatures on the islands will therefore increase as well as in the northeast of the peninsula, but they will decrease in the rest, which will be notable in the interior of the southeast. Minimum temperatures will also decrease slightly, although more markedly in the southwest quadrant, a day of light frosts in the main mountain systems of the northern half and which will be more intense in the Pyrenees.
Intense winds will blow from the east and northeast over the peninsula and the Balearic Islands.and these will be strong on the coasts of Galicia and Asturias, and they will also come with strong intervals and very strong gusts on the Mediterranean coasts and in the central and northwest mountains. Thermal values will therefore experience a gradual recovery, with a moderate and general increase, which will become locally notable on Thursday.
Although AEMET stressed that there are still uncertainties in this regard, the state agency predicted that Precipitation will continue on Friday in certain areas of the Mediterranean basinbut less intense and with a more dispersed character. During this day the area with the highest probability of precipitation will be the southwest quadrant, mainly on the western coasts of Andalusia where showers could be very heavy.
As of Saturday, AEMET indicated that the most likely scenario shows a departure of the DANA towards the Atlanticwith the consequence of a reduction in the probability and intensity of precipitation, which would put an end to this episode.
On this Tuesdayshortly after 2:00 p.m. today, heavy rain fell on the island of Ibiza, especially in areas such as the airport, causing numerous leaks, Ses Figueretes or Sant Jordi.
Bad weather caused significant delays at Palma Airport in departure and arrival operations, but no cancellations were recorded.
At the end of the afternoon, Palma’s Son Sant Joan airport resumed normal operation and recorded only a few “specific delays” both in the departure and arrival of certain flights due to rain.
After 6:00 p.m., three flights scheduled from Palma to Barcelona are delayed by around 50 minutes. On the other hand, five flights are expected to land at Son Sant Joan from Barcelona and Ibiza throughout the afternoon.
Thus, according to an Aena spokesperson, the delays were “punctual” and did not prevent the airport from returning to normal.
