The lack of pedestrian lanes on some streets in Baku creates a serious danger for pedestrians.
One such area is the intersection of Azadlig Avenue and Jafar Khandan Street.
Regarding this Oku.Azreceived a complaint.
“Pedestrians who have to cross the road at the multi-lane intersection here have to face danger at any time, because there is no pedestrian lane to cross from Azadlig Avenue to C. Khandan Street. Furthermore, there is no pedestrian lane to cross on the left side of the road towards Binagadi.” , – is written in the complaint.
The complainant states that since traffic in this area is heavy at any time of the day, it is very worrying that children going to school have to cross that street.
“There is a traffic light in front of the gas station in the area, but there is no pedestrian lane. When the traffic light is green for pedestrians, the green light is also on for cars coming in the opposite direction. From this point of view, There must be a pedestrian lane on this road. Although we have repeatedly appealed to the competent authorities about the problem, they have not responded because they did not know it was necessary,” the complaint highlights.
We sent a request to the Land Transport Agency of Azerbaijan on this issue.
From the Agency’s Press Service Oku.AzIn response to the representative’s request, it was stated that it was not possible to organize pedestrian crossings at the intersection of Azadlig Avenue and Jafar Khandan Street due to inconvenient road infrastructure and lack of connection with the sidewalk:
“After the construction of sidewalks in that area, the issue of the organization of pedestrian crossings can be considered.”
