Dani Olmo and the semi-automatic offside, protagonists of Barça’s victory against Espanyol in the Catalan derby

Barça won the Catalan derby in a match where it took just 45 minutes to take all three points. Dani Olmo, with a double, returned strongly to the starting lineup against Espanyol who saw two goals canceled by semi-automatic offside. [Así hemos contado el derbi entre Barça y Espanyol]

Barça is even more leader in La Liga after the resounding victory against Espanyol at Montjuïc. Flick’s men are nine points ahead of Real Madrid (with a game in hand) and are already thinking about Wednesday’s match against Red Star in the Champions League. This Barça is reminiscent of that of Guardiola who, at half-time, had already resolved the match.

Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo gave the first warnings to the parakeet team, but in the third they were not forgiving. The former Leipzig player opened by removing the cork from a bottle which kept uncorking goals. The playmaker took advantage of a spectacular cross from outside by Lamine Yamal to score the first goal of the afternoon.

Manolo González’s approach did not go as he wanted. With two defensive lines very close together, he tried to fill the spaces in the middle, but a piece of genius from Marc Casadó served Raphinha’s goal on a platter. The youth team is adorable. Undisputed starter with Flick, he created a deep pass which broke two defensive lines. The Brazilian, scoring the ball before the departure of Joan García, scored his seventh goal of the season.

This Flick Barça is deadly. The Barça team took advantage of an Espanyol defeat when the ball was released. Raphinha volleyed and from the edge of the box, Dani Olmo made it 3-0. Nothing can be awarded to the most successful team in La Liga: 40 goals in 12 games.

With the match over, Flick’s team didn’t want to do any more damage in the second half. Barca limited themselves to having the ball and ensuring that Espanyol had no chance, but the plan did not work. Before the hour mark, Álvaro Tejero scored Espanyol’s second goal… once again refused. Manolo González was in disbelief from the bench. The semi-automatic offside prevented the two goals of the parakeets team from being recorded on the scoreboard.

However, the third time was the charm. Carlos Romero won the baseline and placed a cross to the far post which found Javi Puado’s shot. The players automatically turned to Martínez Munuera who, on this occasion, validated the goal.
