Liputan6.com, Jakarta Indonesian cultural minister Fadli Zon expressed his full support for the strategic steps of the president Prabowo Subianto in dealing with the reward tariff policy announced by US President Donald Trump on April 2, 2025.
Fadli insisted that the president’s measures were not only reactive, but the Indonesian leadership was also shown in addressing global trade tensions.
“We should not be afraid of pressure, it is time for Indonesia to show leadership amid global uncertainty,” Fadli said.
Fadli explained that President Prabowo has brought three basic approaches, especially expanding partnerships to strategic trade, speeding up natural resources, and increasing the power of people’s purchase through welfare programs.
He emphasized the importance of changing the trade partners in the midst of global protection.
“Different trading partners are a necessity, especially in this Trump’s tariff policy. Indonesia has moved by strengthening the cooperation of BRICS, ASEAN, and the global countries of the South,” he said.
Fadli also noted the government’s seriousness by accessing RCEP, OECD, and agreements such as IEU-CEPA and CP-TPP as part of the expansion of the domestic product market.
“This is for the sake of strengthening economic sovereignty,” he added.
Regarding the US tariff policy, Fadli saw it as a form of new unilateralism. Indonesia was hit by a 32 percent tariff, the second highest in ASEAN countries after Cambodia.
“With the right approach, we can make this challenge as an opportunity to strengthen the national economy,” he said.
Fadli emphasized that the entire rank of red and white cabinet was ready to perform the Cross -Conctoral strategy and the president.
“The three breakthroughs of President Prabowo are the path of economic independence. Indonesia has not only survived, but leads,” he concluded.
