The hearing of the cassation appeal against the sentence imposed on Uveys Mammadov for the theft of 282,000 manats from an apartment has ended in the Supreme Court.
According to information obtained by Pravda.az, the decision was announced in the trial presided over by Judge Nazim Movsumov.
According to the decision, the appeal was not upheld.
In the investigation, it was found that the victim in the case is the son-in-law of Police Lieutenant General Asgar Alakbarov, who was Deputy Minister of the Interior until 2014. The incident occurred at his daughter’s house. While the victim was on vacation with his family between December 31 and January 2, unknown persons stole from his apartment a safe containing 10,000 manats in cash, $150,000 worth of jewelry, and 15,000 manats worth of watches and other items. Once the information was received, the search for the perpetrators of the incident began. Murad Allahverdiyev and Uveys Mammadov, residents of the Zagatala district, suspected of having committed the aforementioned crime, were arrested shortly after. They admitted the incident in their testimony.
The damage caused in the case amounted to 282 thousand manats. The stolen safe contained numerous expensive jewels, a gold insignia worth 1,800 manat, “Nikolai’s gold tithes”, “Atatürk’s gold tithe money” and other especially valuable items.
In court, Murad Allahverdiyev, the organizer of the crime, said that the house was previously identified as guilty of robbery and that with the help of Uveys a safe weighing between 60 and 70 kilograms was loaded into the car. After opening the safe, he threw it into the water canal in the Yashma settlement, which is located on the side of the Baku-Guba highway.
At the end of the trial in the Baku Serious Crimes Court, presided over by Judge Ilham Mahmudov, M. Allahverdiyev was sentenced to 8 years in prison and U. Mammadov to 7 years in prison.
It should be noted that Police Lieutenant General Asgar Alakbarov worked as Deputy Minister of the Interior in the period 1995-2014.
