Delays in the high-speed network between Madrid and Levante after the derailment of a train in the Chamartín tunnel

A train without passengers derailed on Saturday afternoon in the tunnel that connects Madrid Chamartín and Madrid Puerta de Atocha stations, as reported by Renfe. The incident led to the suspension of the circulation of high-speed trains which connect the capital to eastern Spain in both directions.

Adif reported via his X account that this is an “incident during a maneuver” and that all high-speed trains between Chamartín and Jardín Botánico stations are suspended.

Renfe has not provided any further information on this matter and the causes of the accident are unknown. How long it will take for the network to operate normally has also not been revealed.

Adif information services have announced that trains traveling to Chamartín will stop temporarily at Madrid Puerta de Atocha station.

The Chamartín incident occurred just a day after a breakdown at Adif facilities at Atocha station caused three-hour delays on three Cercanías lines.

On Friday shortly before 7 a.m., a breakdown on the tracks forced the delay, interruption or modification of the usual route of several trains.
