Dengue outbreak in Ethiopia: the health system is collapsing

Dengue is increasing in Ethiopia. Due to the situation, serious problems are observed in the country’s health system. In this regard, scientists have carried out extensive research.

Oku.Az reports that the study was published on the medical portal “PubMed”.

The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the overall prevalence of DENV (dengue virus) infection in Ethiopia.

A bibliographic search was performed in the PubMed, Hinari and Google Scholar databases to identify studies published until July 2023.

A total of 11 studies in participants with suspected dengue and acute febrile illness were included in this review. A meta-analysis showed an overall IgG prevalence of 21% (95% CI: 19 to 23), an overall IgM prevalence of 9% (95% CI (confidence interval): 4 to 13), and an overall prevalence of DENV-RNA of 48% (95% CI: 33-62) estimated.
