The application was made at the Pesantren International Conference, held by the PKB DPP Syuro Council at the Grand Sahid Hotel, Jakarta, June 24-26, 2025.
“Indonesia can be fertile land for the growth of the largest Muslim intelligence in the world and, over time of the driving forces of Islamic world civilization,” Amich said at a session of the conference on Wednesday (06/25/2025).
According to Amich, this potential is supported by Pesantra’s work as social and vertical mobility, as well as its contribution to national development, as in the field of education, social, economic and cultural.
Amich emphasized that Pesantren has always contributed to the confirmation of diversity and the formation of an agent in social transformation. “Benkei has a central position in maintaining the spirit of nationality and establishing a variety,” he said.
He gave an example of the role of students in the struggle for independence, including through the Jihad resolution on October 22, 1945. “To sacrifice the body and soul in various resistance to the invaders is one of the largest manifestations in the history of the modern Indonesian movement,” Amikh said.
On the other hand, Pesantren also gained the educated Muslim generation of the middle class (a middle -class group formed by Pesantren), which is currently actively involved in the social and economic development of the community.
Anatomy of the strategic role Pesantren
Amich said that the anatomy of Pesantra’s power was reflected in social mobility – with the help of Muslim intellectual genology – and vertical mobility, such as the participation of Bantry in politics and government posts.
“Social and vertical mobility is defined as the new social formation of the Pesantren world,” explained Amich, who is also the chairman of the working cluster of the National Directorate of Talents.
He described in detail the role of Pesantra in five strategic areas: social, education, economics, politics and culture. A network of Ulam and family ties appeared in the social region; An educated Muslim middle class appeared in the field of education.
The deputy data of the PMK Bappenas 2024 recorded significant growth in the institutions and number of Pesantren students, especially in the Nekitab yellow Islamic boarding school. The number of yellow non-Hitab-Islamic boarding schools increased from 403 institutions in 2023 to 2558 institutions in 2024, which is 534.74 percent more. While the number of students increased from 116,835 to 402 197 people or increased by 244.24 percent.
Conversely, the number of Pesantren Yellow Pesantren’s students decreased from 4.07 million in 2023 to 3.14 million in 2024.
“An increase in the number of students should be supported by efforts to strengthen the mechanism for recognizing graduates of the education of Pesantren in order to be equivalent to graduates of formal education,” Amich said.
Hundreds of students and people who care for Islamic boarding schools, as well as residents of Pinrang Ridseni, held Dhikr and prayer together.
