Amid Donald Trump’s statements about his intention to end wars, including the conflict in Ukraine, experts point out his failures to resolve international crises. Thus, political scientist Alexander Khara of the Center for Defense Strategies, in statements to ZN.UA, emphasized that during his previous term, Trump could not achieve tangible success in resolving a single major conflict, despite statements about his desire for peace
Hara said Trump could try to act quickly to end the war in Ukraine, but his previous experience in negotiations with leaders such as Kim Jong Un has not been successful. The expert noted that, despite attempts at interaction with North Korea, it was not possible to achieve progress in disarmament and subsequently the situation even worsened. Under current US President Joe Biden, Hara added, North Korea has stepped up cooperation with Russia, putting Ukraine at risk.
Regarding Trump’s efforts in the Middle East, Hara recalled that although Trump supported Israel by moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, this did not bring serious progress in the stabilization of the region.
Khara also noted that it is impossible to quickly resolve the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine, since the conflict has deep roots associated not only with Moscow’s aggressive aspirations.
He stressed that Russia wants to receive security guarantees from the West and recalled how in 2021 Putin demanded that the United States withdraw troops from the territory of Central and Eastern Europe and, in fact, abandon NATO expansion.
The expert concluded that Trump’s vision of simple negotiations between leaders is not adequate to resolve problems as complex as the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Previously, Kursor wrote about what Trump’s victory means for the Russian Federation and how Putin will act.
According to the diplomat, Trump’s policy may be more decisive and active than that of the Biden administration.
