Details of the terrible crime in Baku: he first stabbed the teacher and then strangled him to death

On 27 May 2022, the Attorney General’s Office and the Home Office published information about a serious crime that occurred in the Garadagh district.

According to reports, the body of Khuraman Hasanova with signs of violence was found after extinguishing the fire that occurred on Yunis Mirzayev Street, house 4, apartment 14.

As a result of operational and investigative measures, Orkhan Novruzov was detained as a suspect the next day. It turned out that the deceased worked as a primary school teacher at secondary school No. 139.

The investigation established that on May 25, at around 9 p.m., Orkhan Novruzov asked his son-in-law Shahin Allahverdiyev to drive him to the address where Khuraman Hasanova lives, without telling him which house he should go to. He told his relative to wait for him in front of building number 4 on Yunis Mirzayev Street and went up to the third floor. After entering the house, he wounded the woman with a knife he took from the kitchen and then strangled her. After seeing that the woman was dead, he looted the jewelry worth 8,100 manats.

Later, to hide the traces of the crime, he burned the clothes in the room and ran away from the house. With the fire he started, Orkhan Novruzov damaged Khuraman Hasanova’s apartment worth AZN 19,000, and Murad Muradov, who lives next door, damaged AZN 8,880.

According to the verdict of the Baku Court of Serious Crimes, Orkhan Novruzov was sentenced to 18 years of strict imprisonment.
