DGT to pay more than 1.4 million to Airbus to maintain its helicopters

The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) will allocate 1,417,628.54 euros over 14 months to Airbus Helicopters Spain to provide technical documentation and spare parts material to maintain the 11 helicopters of this agency of the Ministry of the Interior.

The contract was negotiated without publicity because it can only be executed by the helicopter manufacturer itself. by holding exclusive intellectual and industrial property rights. This is indicated by a resolution published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) and collected by Servimedia.

The DGT expects that the nine AS355 N and NP helicopters in its air fleet will accumulate 2,450 flight hours over 14 months (around 2,100 per year). Each of them must be subject to periodic examinations maintenance and includes components with life limits.

In addition, their two EC 135 T2+ helicopters will add 583 flight hours in 14 months and they must also be revised and contain elements of limited duration.

The DGT Air Resources Unit is the oldest flight unit of the Ministry of the Interior and contributes to safety on motorways, highways and conventional routes through air traffic surveillance and control missions. It also intervenes when exceptional circumstances arise such as natural disasters. (Lorca earthquake in 2011), extreme weather events (Filomena snowfall in 2021), road closures due to strikes, demonstrations, etc.
