Director Laurent Tirard, revealed with the comedy Lies and betrayals and even more so if there are affinities…He died on Thursday, September 5 in Paris, at the age of 57, his agent announced to Agence France-Presse. “He left us (…) after having led, with immense courage, a long fight against the disease”said his agent.
Born in Roubaix (North), Laurent Tirard grew up in Fontainebleau (Seine-et-Marne). He studied film in the United States at New York University. He went to Hollywood, where he was a script reader at Warner and then a journalist at Study journalbefore becoming a television and then film scriptwriter.
In 2004, his first film, Lies and betrayals and even more so if there are affinities…reunites Edouard Baer and Clovis Cornillac, winner of the César for best supporting role. He will later excel in adaptations: little Nicholas (2009), his biggest success, with more than 5 million viewers in France, then Little Nicholas’s vacation (2014), based on the novels by René Goscinny and Jean-Jacques Sempé, Asterix and Obelix: at the service of His Majesty (2012), or even The speech (2020), based on a novel by Fabrice Caro.
Affected by cancer in 2012, he underwent a bone marrow transplant that caused graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) that left him “attacked the skin, the lungs, the liver, the intestines”trusted in 2020.
