This morning, the interval between trains leaving from the Darnagul station of the Baku metro to the Azadlig Prospekt station reached 9 minutes.
Passengers reported this to Qafqazinfo. According to them, the congestion is observed due to the beginning of the academic year, and the delay of trains increases the congestion somewhat.
We contacted JSC “Baku Metropolitan” on this matter. Bakhtiyar Mammadov, press secretary of the institution, stated that the increase in the interval at the mentioned station is due to the use of train shunting to reduce the density of passengers:
“Since the technically densest intervals are set at morning rush hours on the metro, train shunting is used to regulate the density of passengers. That is, a train returns from the station “Memar Ajami” in one direction, and from the station “Neftchilar” in the other direction. As a result of the return of this train, the number of passengers at the main metro stations “20 Janvar” and “Koroglu” is reduced. For this reason, once every hour from “Darnagul” to “Memar Acami” or from “Memar Acami” the interval in the direction of “Darnagul” may be doubled. The same applies in the direction of the stations “Neftchilar” – “Hazi Aslanov”. from the direction “Neftchilar”, in such cases, you can see 3 trains in a row going in the same direction from the station “Hazi Aslanov”.
B. Mammadov added that this malfunction is not related to the problem on the line. It is carried out in order to regulate the flow of passengers on the busiest part of the line.
