The president of the Generalitat Valenciana, the popular Carloz Mazón, is gradually reshaping his Consell. If on Sunday afternoon he announced that the spokesperson for the Executive would become vice-president Susana Camarero, he announced this Monday the dismissal of the Minister of Tourism and Industry, Núria Montes.
Formally, no administrative act has been carried out or it does not appear in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana. The Communications Office has sent a press release in which it informs that the new minister responsible for industry will be Marián Cano, president of the shoe association, who has already participated in the European elections with the PP, without obtaining a seat.
Montes was heavily questioned for her statements regarding the “morgue” at Feria Valencia. The former leader said: “The bodies will not be delivered to the families here, family members will not be allowed access to them” and apologized shortly after. After these unfortunate statements which earned him constant criticism, the Valencian president got rid of them, which constitutes his first dismissal from the Consell since the climate crisis. The Minister of Justice, Salomé Pradas, competent in emergencies and most notable for her management, is still in office, although it is predictable that she will be the next to leave the regional executive.
The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, called on Mazón this Monday to work to regain the trust of the Valencian people. “If they aspire to be equal with the people, to honor the victims and to be fair to what happened, they are obliged to do two things,” he added. The first consists of “evaluating based on criticism and self-criticism”. The second, “to compensate for what happened through reconstruction which allows people to live normally again and to have the certainty that it will not happen again”.
Cano graduated in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid, holds a postgraduate degree in Commercial Management and Marketing from ESIC and is currently Executive President of the Valencian Association of Footwear Entrepreneurs (AVECAL) since 2015 .
The regional director highlights her relationship with the footwear sector, which began in 2010 when she was appointed general secretary of the Association of Footwear Industrialists of Elche (AICE). In 2020, she assumed the interim presidency of the Federation of Spanish Footwear Industries (FICE), which she holds until 2022. Currently, she serves as Secretary General of FICE (Federation of Spanish Footwear Industries). shoe). In 2023, she was appointed member of the Executive Committee of the Chamber of Alicante.
