Does Ukraine have means to intercept Oreshnik missiles?

The chief editor of the military analysis portal Defense Express, Oleg Katkov, expressed his opinion on Ukraine’s ability to intercept Oreshnik missiles.

In an interview with OBOZ.UA, he noted that the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system in the PAC-3 version, according to specifications, is not intended to intercept medium-range and intercontinental missiles. However, in practice, Patriot has already faced tasks that, in theory, are beyond its capabilities.

As examples, the expert cited the successful interceptions of the Kinzhal missiles and the Zircon hypersonic missile.

Katkov clarified that medium-range missiles are capable of covering distances from 1,000 to 5,500 kilometers. At the same time, in his words, the flight range for Ukraine is not so important, since missiles with a range of more than 700 kilometers are capable of hitting targets throughout the country, including areas adjacent to the occupied territories.

The expert highlighted that the missiles used by Russia to attack the Dnieper were originally developed for nuclear attacks. He noted that they were equipped with a separate warhead with individual guidance units, emphasizing their strategic purpose.

Previously, “Cursor” wrote about how quickly Oreshnik will fly to the centers of Europe.

In a matter of minutes, a Russian intercontinental missile will reach the centers of Europe.
