Scientists at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center found that taking vitamin D supplements for two years did not reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, regardless of the dose.
Oku.AzThe “American Journal of Preventive Cardiology” reported on it.
To evaluate the effects of vitamin D supplements on the heart, researchers looked at whether higher doses of the substance reduced levels of two specific proteins in the blood that indicate heart damage and stress.
The review did not confirm the effectiveness of vitamin D supplementation in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease in adults. Low levels of vitamin D are associated with an early indicator of heart disease, the researchers noted. However, over the two years of the study, targeted supplementation did not affect any markers of cardiovascular health, regardless of dose.
