Mamdani, a politician who declared himself a socialist, succeeded in creating a political surprise – defeated the former governor of New York, Andrew Kuomo in competitions, which was considered a battle for the future of the Democratic Party.
A member of the Birth Council in Uganda was behind Kuomo in a survey until the end of the preliminary elections, strengthened with a message about a lower rent, universal care of children and free bus services.

According to local city officials, Mamdani received 43 percent of the vote with 95 percent of the ballots. Kuomo, who received about 36 percent, confirmed to his supporters that he contacted his rival and recognized his defeat – and seemed to have no opportunity to continue his opponent.
The victory of Mamdani was widely celebrated by the Democratic Party and New York citizens, but not President Donald Trump, who considered political chaos in his former hometown in a series of posts of anger about social truth.
