Don’t break our ranks, it plays into Sandu’s hands – EADaily, September 5, 2024 – Politics News, News from Moldova and Transnistria

The Socialist Party of Moldova is not responding to criticism from its partners in the parliamentary bloc of the Communist Party and is calling on opposition candidates in the presidential elections not to attack each other, said PSRM leader Igor Dodon today, September 5.

He pointed out that otherwise a service would be rendered to the common enemy: the current Head of State. Maie Sandu.

According to the former president, it is regrettable that the former president Vladimir Voronin and his Communist Party, which is in opposition bloc with the socialists, “criticized us and our candidate” (The socialists decided not to present their own candidate, but to support an independent one: the former attorney general Alexandra Stoianoglo. — approx. EADaily).

“We will not respond to his criticism as we have appealed to other candidates not to attack each other if we are in opposition to the government. Any political fight among the opposition will help Sandhu. Let us put aside bickering, show political maturity and not allow ranks to break.” – Dodon emphasized.

He also called on his opposition colleagues to organise monitoring of polling stations abroad to record all violations committed by the ruling Action and Solidarity party.

“We need to focus on this, not on attacking each other.” — concluded Igor Dodon.

Presidential elections will be held in Moldova on October 20. Before the start of the election campaign, Dodon took the initiative to nominate a single opposition candidate against Maia Sandu. However, this initiative did not find support and about 15 people representing different political forces expressed their desire to compete.

It is hoped that the protest electorate will be able to consolidate itself in the second round around the candidate who has won the most votes, but this does not guarantee victory.

Dodon previously stated that the ruling regime will commit any illegality in these elections. At the same time, he is confident that in the parliamentary elections in 2025 the opposition will finally be able to reach an agreement and form a “majority coalition against the PDS and Maia Sandu.”

As reported EADaily The other day, Sandu, who is supported by the PDS and the so-called Western partners (in a month, the presidents of Germany, Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, the Prime Minister of Poland and the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will arrive. The Ministry will arrive in a few days), said she was “inspired and optimistic”.

According to the latest poll, if the presidential election were to be held next Sunday, Stoianoglo would get 11.4% of the votes, placing third. Maia Sandu, preferred by 27.5% of citizens and leader of Our Party, would go through to the second round. Renato Usatiisupported by 11.6% of voters.
