JAKARTA – The speaker of the Indonesian parliament, Puan Maharani claimed, his party did not take any position regarding the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) in relation to the separation of national and regional elections.
He said that DPR will first consider the decision, including the fact that the impact on the legislation on elections and political parties.
“From DPR, in accordance with the mechanism, of course, he will study this, then to look for the steps that we take, and how we look at the best steps. According to him, the decision of the Constitutional Court is important for the election legislation. “But we have not yet discussed the election law, so the DPR and the government will consider the decision of the Constitutional Court,” he said.
As you know, the Constitutional Court decided that the election at the national level should be carried out separately with the regional or city elections (local elections), held for at least 2 years or a maximum of 2.5 years after national elections.
