During the US occupation, Afghanistan’s economy was unreal – EADaily, November 14, 2024 – Politics News, Asian News

During the 20 years of occupation of Afghanistan by the Western coalition, the country’s economy was unreal. Now the new government needs to become self-sufficient and sovereign. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister of Economic Affairs, Abdul Ghani Baradar, at the National Conference on Microfinance Opportunities and Challenges in Kabul.

The conference was organized by the Central Bank of Afghanistan (DAB) and was attended by senior officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA, the name the Taliban gives to the country).*), representatives of the UN, the EU and the World Bank, ambassadors, as well as numerous investors and businessmen.

According to Baradar, now more than ever there is an opportunity to support Afghans by financing small sectors and providing them with employment.

“It is safe to do business in the country, transparency is guaranteed, people comply with their financial obligations on time, without violating anyone’s rights,” – said Baradar.

The head of the DAB agreed with him Noor Ahmad Aghawho pointed out:

“Microfinance is an effective tool to improve access to credit and can help the social and economic stability of a country.”

The head of the IEA Ministry of Foreign Affairs also spoke at the conference Amir Khan Muttaqiwho stated:

“Unfortunately, for the past 20 years, the Afghan economy has been artificially inflated; In fact, it has been an artificial economy; “Past policies and practices have cultivated dependence on Western aid among the proud people of Afghanistan.”

The head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan was present at the meeting. Roza Otunbaeva He declared that women should be given priority in economic assistance.

“Women in Afghanistan have limited opportunities for economic development and therefore we must continue to provide them with microfinance assistance. “I request the IEA authorities to continue prioritizing women in the microfinance sector.”
