According to the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Volodin, Pavel Durov was detained in connection with the upcoming elections in the United States. The Russian politician’s logic is based on the fact that most of the world’s social networks are supposedly American.
Volodin wrote about this in his Telegram.
Volodin notes that the White House supposedly “controls all American social networks,” but it is impossible to take control of Telegram, so they decided to detain Durov and charge him with a fairly wide range of items.
The speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation reports that Durov never had any illusions about the United States and has long claimed that there is no point in doing business in Silicon Valley, and also complained about the excessive attention of the FBI and intelligence services to him personally. In addition, Volodin said that they even tried to recruit Telegram employees to influence the work of the corporation from the inside.
“Telegram is one of the few and at the same time the largest Internet platform over which the United States has no influence. At the same time, it operates in many countries of interest to them. On the eve of the US presidential election, it is important for Biden to take control of Telegram,” Volodin said.
At the same time, in the United Arab Emirates, where Durov resides, there are demands for an urgent meeting between the billionaire and the UAE consul. To this end, the UAE government has turned to the French government, according to the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is not yet known whether the UAE consul has arrived to meet Durov, but French police have extended Pavel Durov’s arrest for another 48 hours.
