Venezuela’s president-elect, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutiaclaimed his fight to “enforce the sovereign will” that the citizens of his country expressed during the vote in the presidential election of July 28. This was expressed after meeting this Thursday with the head of government, Pedro Sanchezin his official residence in La Moncloa.
Edmundo González said he had “a very pleasant and interesting experience” conversation” with the socialist leader, whom he thanked for granting him political asylum. González also expressed his gratitude for his “interest in working for the recovery of democracy and respect for human rights in our country.”
Edmundo González arrived in Spain last Sunday after winning the presidential elections in Venezuela, following reprisals and threats from the Venezuelan president. Neither the European Union nor the United States have recognized the results defended by Maduro without presenting any evidence.
The persecution against González was materialized by the arrest warrant issued by the Chavist prosecutor’s office on September 3. A court issued this order following instructions from the regime led by Nicolás Maduro.

Sánchez met with González Urrutia on Thursday after the Congress of Deputies demanded that the government recognize the opposition leader as the winner of the presidential elections in the South American country. However, the PSOE opposed this.
Instead, the socialist government said it was maintaining its “clear position.” The spokesman for the Executive, Pilar Alegriastressed that his position “implies requesting the publication of the official minutes to be able to verify the results and know who is the legitimate winner of the elections and therefore the next tenant of the Miraflores Palace.”
The socialist leader continued the photo with the former Venezuelan diplomat even though he did not recognize him as president-elect. The head of the Executive returned this Thursday from his trip to China and intended to meet with the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, although his government partners rejected this appointment. The appointment was not on his official agenda. The only event scheduled was the “presentation of the new campaign to promote the use of public transport.” He will participate in this event together with the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Oscar Bridge.
Finally, the director general published a video on his social networks in which he appears walking with González Urrutia inside the La Moncloa complex. Sánchez expressed “a warm welcome” to González Urrutia, to whom he justified the granting of asylum “by demonstrating the humanitarian commitment and solidarity of Spain with Venezuelans.”
