Sánchez met with González Urrutia on Thursday after the Congress of Deputies demanded that the government recognize the opposition leader as the winner of the presidential elections in the South American country. However, the PSOE opposed this.

Instead, the socialist government said it was maintaining its “clear position.” The spokesman for the Executive, Pilar Alegriastressed that his position “implies requesting the publication of the official minutes to be able to verify the results and know who is the legitimate winner of the elections and therefore the next tenant of the Miraflores Palace.”

The socialist leader continued the photo with the former Venezuelan diplomat even though he did not recognize him as president-elect. The head of the Executive returned this Thursday from his trip to China and intended to meet with the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, although his government partners rejected this appointment.
