The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, spoke his first words regarding the asylum granted by Spain to the leader of the Venezuelan opposition and apparent winner of the elections, Edmundo González Urrutia, at the end of the inauguration this morning of the new center of the Cervantes Institute in Shanghai.
“Any political reading is inappropriate, it is a gesture of humanity,” he said during an informal interview with journalists. The President of the Government also announced his intention to meet him at the end of this week, at the end of his official visit to China, to inquire about his situation and that of his family.
Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares, who was also present at the event, confirmed to this newspaper that Sánchez had not yet had an exchange with González Urrutia, pending the meeting scheduled for the coming days.
