Edurne Berrade and Olga López de Dicastillo National Awards for Navarrese Nurses

THE Navarrese nurses Edurne Berrade (care field) and Olga Lopez de Dicastillo (teaching field) were designated finalists for the 2nd National Nursing Awards, convened by the General Council of Nurses (CGE).

A total of 25 finalists from 16 different provinces were chosen, divided into five categories, among which the objective is to recognize nurses from different areas of the profession. Thus, professional activity in the field of care, management, teaching and research will be rewarded, in addition to a lifelong professional career. Each category has five finalists.The vote, in which only registered nurses can participate, will be open from September 16 to October 15.

Edurne Berrade Zubiri is a nurse at the Health Center II Ensanche (Pamplona) and Olga López de Dicastillo Sainz de Murieta, vice-dean of Postgraduate Studies, Mobility and Institutional Relations of the Faculty of Health Sciences Health of the Public University of Navarre (UPNA). Both were proposed by the Official College of Nurses of Navarre, which presented six other candidates for this edition.

It is worth remembering that last year there were five finalists from Navarre and two prizes were won: Blanca Marín, retired professor from UPNA, in the teaching area category; and Carmen Asiain, retired supervisor from CUN UCI, in the professional career category.

To choose the finalists, the CGE requested the collaboration of the 52 provincial nursing schools throughout Spainwho sent their proposals for each of the categories until a list of 95 candidates was formed. Once the initial selection was made, a jury composed of representatives from the CGE, the National Association of Nursing Directors (ANDE), the Spanish Union of Scientific Societies of Nurses (UESCE) and the academic environment was responsible for selecting the five finalists in each category.

The selection of winners will be mixed: on the one hand, the jury’s assessment will be taken into account, and on the other hand, the results of an online popular vote will be taken into account.

EDURNE BERRADE, REFERENCE NURSE FOR INJURIES

Edurne Berrade Zubiri, nurse at the Health Center II Ensanche (Pamplona), is a reference in wound care in Navarre. Graduated in Nursing from the University of Navarre, she stands out for the continuous updating of her knowledge in the key areas of nursing.

In the field of research, Edurne Berrade has developed projects such as the creation of a website for the safe use of medicines, funded by the Spanish Foundation of Hospital Pharmacy, and has carried out studies on the measurement of body temperature with infrared thermometers in collaboration with the Department of Health of the Government of Navarre.

Her commitment to excellence in patient care has led her to recognitions such as the IV National Betadine Nursing Award and a second place award at the Vascular and Wound Nursing Association Congress for her work improving protocols and communication between levels of care.

Berrade has held positions of responsibility such as Head of the Nursing Unit of the former Virgen del Camino Hospital and she combined her work in the health field with teaching, as an associate professor and internship tutor at the Public University of Navarra, as well as teaching courses on wound care at the College of Nurses of Navarra.

OLGA LÓPEZ DE DICASTILLO, NURSE TEACHER AND RESEARCHER

Olga Lopez de Dicastillo is a nurse and academic focused on teaching and research in the health field. Graduated in Nursing from the Public University of Navarra (UPNA) in 1996, He specialized in pediatrics at the University Clinic of Navarre.

He got the Degree in Nursing at the University of Valencia and continued his academic training in the UK, where he completed a Masters by Research at Durham University and a Doctorate in Nursing (PhD) at the University of Manchester.

Back in Spain, López de Dicastillo joined the University of Navarra as a professor, where she worked for nine years as a professor in the Department of Maternal, Child and Community Nursing.

She has contributed significantly to the knowledge in her field, publishing more than 30 articles in high-impact scientific journals. In addition, she is the author of 12 books and book chapters and has participated in various scientific communications presented at national and international conferences.

Currently, it is Vice-Dean for Graduate Studies, Mobility and Institutional Relations of the Faculty of Sciences of HEALTH at UPNA and a full professor at this center, with a research section accredited by the CNEAI. His teaching work was recognized by the UPNA 2021 Teaching Excellence Award, where he stands out for his ability to integrate traditional and innovative methodologies into his teaching.
