When October ends and November approaches, and especially the transit between one and the other on the night of All Saintsthe myth of Don Juan begins to haunt the most classic settings of Spain, which defied heaven and earth with its libertine life. For years, in Córdoba, the legendary figure has visited many places, including the Palace of Viana, a historic setting that brings together hundreds of people each edition.
“The Trickster in the Palace” is set to return to the stage for another year with eight performances that will be promoted by the Cajasur Foundation and which will be performed by the Trápala Teatro company, in collaboration with the Opera Choir Cajasur for the musical part.
There are many versions of Don Juan, both in theater and opera, and “El Burlador en Palacio” brings together several texts, as explained by the Cajasur Foundation. Thus, the dramatization contains fragments of “Don Juan” by Molière and the “Don Juan Tenorio” of Jose Zorrillaso popular in Spain and which was performed so many times at that time.
They are joined by “Don Giovanni”the opera performed by Mozart and which is among the most performed, and whose music is also used to direct the narration.
As the Cajasur Foundation explains, “El Burlador en Palacio” is “a spectacle multidisciplinary and interactive with the public”, which crosses the monument. Prose, verse, spoken voice, sung voice, lyrical and epic merge in a work which mixes the divine and the human and whose objective is to “show through beauty the way to avoid the frivolization of ‘Don Juan’ as a myth of culture through the centuries”.

The scheduled performances will take place on October 24, 25, 26 and 27, then continue on October 7, 8, 9 and 10. Novemberalways at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available, at the price of 18 euros, at the Viana Palace box office, but also on this website. They have a price of 18 euros for a limited capacity, for reasons of space, at 40 people by function.
The work takes place in closed and also open spaces, as it takes advantage of the numerous and beautiful terraces of the monument, but the presence of rain, so common in autumn, will not be a problem. The performances, said the Cajasur Foundation, are guaranteed because there are interior rooms to ensure that the entire journey can be completed.
