Cities flooded, streets washed away, rivers overflowed. And at least 52 dead. The DANA that continues to ravage the Peninsula, and in particular the Valencian Community and Castilla-La Mancha, has left a chaos that no one can ignore and that we cannot and will not ignore from EL ESPAÑOL. Thus, and in solidarity with the victims and the missing, our newspaper has decided to postpone the presentation of its annual awards.
At the Four Seasons Hotel in Madrid and starting at 8:00 p.m. this Wednesday, EL ESPAÑOL was going to organize the awards ceremony. The Lions 2024. A ceremony during which Antonio HuertasCEO of Mapfre; Rudy Fernándezalready a former basketball player; the walkers María Pérez and Álvaro Martin; and the ProFuturo Project They would receive prizes in four categories: business management, professional career, sport and solidarity.
The events of last night, however, impose a call for responsibility. From the EMU deployment on the ground in rescue efforts, to offers of help from neighboring autonomous communities or to the suspension of the control session in the Congress of Deputies. This Wednesday is not a day of celebration.
Today, we can only think about saving those who are still in a vulnerable situation, recovering the bodies of the deceased, finding the missing, helping those who have lost their homes…
