Therefore, the 35% of 14 students having completed the Master between October 2023 and September 2024 joined the editorial team after signing their contract at the end of their six-month internship.

The potential of the selected students and the hard work carried out during these 12 months of Master, six on campus and six in the editorial office of EL ESPAÑOL in Madrid, have been decisive in what, for many, will be their first contract in as journalists.

The chosen students are Clara Arrabal, Victoria Villafranca, Andrea G. Cilleruelo, Juan Villanueva And Alvaro Guzman. The top three achieved the best final 12-month average. The semester on campus and in writing have equal weight.

Clara Arrabal (24 years old) and Andrea G. Cilleruelo (26 years old), respectively from Guadalajara and Valladolid, joined the editorial team of Magiciansthe portal dedicated specifically to women. They will work under the orders of Ana Núñez-Milara. Victoria Villafranca (23 years old), from Ciudad Real, after completing the internship between Invested And Social networkswill continue in this last section, led by Mario Vidal, professor of the Master.

Juan Villanueva (33), journalist specializing in the environment, will work at Enclave SDGsthe section committed to the health of the planet, led by journalist Charo Izquierdo. The Magas and Enclave ODS area, crucial to EL ESPAÑOL, is led by Cruz Sánchez de Lara.

The increase in the number of Master’s employees – initially there were to be four, although the commitment of this postgraduate degree was to integrate only two – took place to strengthen the newspaper’s delegation in Andalusia.

Álvaro Guzmán (28), who signs under the name Álvaro Guzguti, is the new editor-in-chief of local information in Seville. This incorporation is in itself a declaration of principles: it is the commitment of Pedro J. Ramírez, director and president of EL ESPAÑOL, to decentralize the newspaper so that it is a true reflection of autonomous Spain and thus make more Constitution and more Spain.

MASTER OF SPANISH JOURNALISM

Guzmán carried out the internship in the Spanish sections and in social networks. This double experience was very well received by Inma León, responsible for the Andalusian edition. EL ESPAÑOL launched its Andalusian edition in March 2020. In 2021, it was particularly involved in Malaga and, since the end of 2023, in Seville.

The first day of hiring of the five former master’s students took place in tension and passion, as good journalism, and in particular provincial journalism, feels. And also with the provision of knowledge thanks to the Master.

Guzmán himself was preparing a good story this Wednesday in Seville, applying what he learned in the numerous Verification, Data and Transparency courses.

The Master in Journalism from EL ESPAÑOL and the Camilo José University This will strengthen its commitment to regional journalism. During the next academic year, students will be able to choose six months of internships either in the Madrid editorial office or in regional delegations or associated newspapers in places like A Coruña, Seville, Málaga or in the regional offices of Castilla y Leon.

The five hired from the first class are a success for this Master in Journalism and constitute the best letter of introduction for candidates entering the second class. It will start in the middle of October and there are few places left to register. The only two requirements are to have a university degree, in journalism or any other career, and to want to dedicate yourself to communication.

During the course year 23/24, Master students heard repeatedly that there is no real journalism without freedom of publication and without ethical and responsible conduct on the part of journalists.

Precisely, the words employability and usefulness (from the first day in the editorial office) were very present in the mind of the creator and first director of this Master, the journalist Miguel Angel Mellado.

“That EL ESPAÑOL finally hires five students is important, but for me it is more important than many other members of the first promotion, like Inés Gilabert or Angelica Rimini, to cite two other examples, be willing to be part of any editorial team which they enter. I don’t want to give ideas to my competitors, but they have young and ambitious journalists at their disposal, already trained and awaiting their destiny,” says Mellado.

“Our Master is a master of masters and the students are multimedia, capable of creating information, a report, a podcast, a ‘Live’… In short, they can be useful because of their versatility in different types of writing” , adds the seasoned journalist.

The Master of Journalism EL ESPAÑOL will refresh its content compared to the previous course: it will be even more multimedia, with more practical courses on artificial intelligence, social networks, podcast, camera, cell phone, but also with greater depth in quality journalism, exclusives -with the incorporation of Manuel Cerdán-, war reporting -with the signature of Antonio Pampliega-, with more data journalism…

It is a complete master’s degree, with work and entrepreneurship, with journalists as teachers, on the most innovative campus in Madrid, on Juan Hurtado Street in Mendoza and in the main newspaper in Spain.
