Until now the only declared candidate, the former prime minister made her decision official on Wednesday, October 29, in a joint press release with Gabriel Attal, before announcing her candidacy in the afternoon, through a letter sent to her party members.

“Neither the situation of our country nor that of our party would support division”the two former prime ministers write that “We are committed to creating the conditions for the broadest possible meeting”. A “reunion” that was won with a hard fight after weeks of bitter negotiations in which each side had commissioned negotiators: the former minister Franck Riester for Gabriel Attal and the Val-de-Marne deputy Guillaume Gouffier Valente for Elisabeth Terminal.

The two parties finally agreed to share key positions, in particular the composition of the executive council and the national investiture commission, of which a quarter should be appointed by Elisabeth Borne. The latter will become, incidentally, president of the national council, a position created for the occasion.
