Emergency works are completed on line 9 of the Alicante TRAM which passes through Mascarat

The Minister of Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, visited the emergency works carried out in the Line 9 of the Alacant TRAM (Benidorm-Denia), passing through the Mascarat area in Altea.

The regional secretary of Infrastructure and Transport, Javier Sendra, also participated in the visit; the Director General of Transport, Manuel Ríos; the general director of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV), Alfonso Novo; the mayor of Altea, Diego Zaragozí and representatives of the company that carried out the work.

This work, carried out by FGV, began last April to respond to fire damage which affected the railway infrastructure and surrounding conditions of this line in January.

The actions were carried out over nearly three kilometers between the stations of Olla d’Altea and Calp and they have a budget of three million euros.

The councilor explained that “this work was carried out in parallel and coordinated with the work of the new railway viaducts of Mascarat and Algar on the same line 9, with a common budget exceeding 16 million euros and financed by European funds.

At the same time, he announced that “next October the work of dismantling the original bridge in the Mascarat ravine and the process of installing the new viaduct will begin, so that once the renovation works of the viaducts of ‘Algar and Mascarat, the 5000 series diesel-electric propulsion units will be able to circulate between Dénia and Benidorm without the need for transfer.

The emergency works repaired the damage caused by the fire that occurred between January 6 and 9, near the marina of Campomanes and Mascarat, which spread and spread to the west thanks to the existence of strong winds, reaching the highway. Replacement of the Mascarat viaduct

The works in Mascarat, with a tender budget of 8,266,980.43 euros including tax, This involves the replacement of the current viaduct, built between 1913 and 1915, with a new one with similar characteristics and preserving an aesthetic similar to that of the original viaduct.

The new viaduct will have a total length of 43.20 meters, crossing the ravine with a single isostatic span and having the same characteristics as the original deck (PRATT type metal structure).

Furthermore, Mascarat’s action includes the replacement of the entire route (approximately 1.5 kilometers) of the current superstructure of the ballast railway platform with a slab track, the protection and execution of 12 475 m2 of slope surface using triple torsion trellises and the installation of dynamic screens.
