This Friday, Castilla-La Mancha celebrated the institutional event on the occasion of National Police Day, highlighting the heroism of its agents and with particular memory to those who lost their lives to terrorism. It was the government delegate in Castile-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, who presided over her first act in this position, who dedicated her first words to the 188 police officers who died due to terrorism. “I want to remember the victims of terrorism, the 188 men and women brutally murdered by this scourge. My memory goes to his family and his colleagues,” he said, stressing that all National Police agents are “heroes” who go out daily to carry out their duty. “No matter how serious the threat or challenge, you are always ready.”
Tolón recognized at this stage that the Spanish government is “aware” that to accomplish the mission entrusted to the police it is necessary to have sufficient personnel, resources and means. In Castile-La Mancha, “this commitment has been reflected in various measures in recent years”, such as a 20% increase in staff numbers, with 47 trainee police officers recently incorporated.
The end of work on the new police stations in Cuenca or Puertollano; the start of work on the new GEO base in Guadalajara in 2025the incorporation of aerial means for surveillance and rescue tasks, and the new call for employment with 2,707 positions are other measures presented by Tolón.
Other challenges such as cybercrime, drug trafficking or human trafficking were also addressed in Tolón’s speech, who congratulated the decorated agents yesterday. For his part, the main head of the National Police, Javier Pérez, highlighted that in the region the crime rate continues to be 11.3 points lower than the national average and that this is a “safe” territory.
Among the authorities present at this event, the Minister of Development, Nacho Hernando, highlighted the “very high” approval rates of citizens of this “huge institution”. For his part, the mayor of Toledo, Carlos Velázquez, emphasized that “we are grateful to our security forces, always committed to protecting and serving our city and the entire country.”
