Tick-borne encephalitis, endemic to the Far East and Siberia, is spreading to western Russia and even to Western European countries, immunologist Mikhail Bolkov spoke about this in an interview with Izvestia.
“The disease is spreading due to global warming, deforestation, and the expansion of tourism to the north and south. For example, the tick-borne encephalitis virus was not in the Altai Mountains before, but now it is there, it appeared in Mongolia, it is moving to the mountains, it appeared in Karelia, it appeared in Komi, it is found in European countries and in England. Now there are more and more cases of it, including in the Moscow region.” – said Bolkov.
According to the specialist, the carrier of the infection can theoretically be found even in the Alexander Garden, near Red Square.
