In Moldova, the state -owned Energom company today, July 8, signed an agreement to lend to 400 million euros with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to buy natural gas and electricity in the heating season. The state will work as a guarantor of this agreement.

Finance Minister RM put his signature under the document Doreen Chongett. Energom’s financial resources will allow the implementation of strategic purchases for natural gas and electricity to fulfill their obligations to provide public services to the final consumers in the country, especially with regard to the heating season from 2025 to 2026. The loan was organized through three segments in the amount of 300 million euros, in addition to a renewable credit line for five years.

“Energy supply guarantee is a strategic priority for the Republic of Moldova. This is an important factor for the protection of the population, especially the most vulnerable, as well as to maintain economic and social stability.” Note Zhungiyt.

The Ministry of Energy explained that the financial line provided by EBRD is the result of competitive negotiations and meets the need to ensure energy security in the country through a sustainable and flexible mechanism. The administration confirmed that the mechanism does not create a financial burden on the state budget, with the exception of exceptional positions, because it is designed to serve as a tool for protection and stability in a political political context characterized by uncertainty.

New funds were obtained in the context of the end of the “Natural Gas Supply Safety” project, signed in 2022, which also included a credit line received from EBRD.
