ERC, Bildu and Podemos want to regularize all foreigners who now live in Spain

ERC, Bildu and Podemos have presented a joint amendment to the law to regularize half a million foreigners, with which the number of immigrants who would legalize their situation would increase considerably. The three parties, which have maintained a strategic alliance since former vice president Pablo Iglesias managed to make Pedro Sánchez definitively opt for the independentists to the detriment of Ciudadanos in 2020, want to take the popular legislative initiative unblocked by the Congress Table. Tuesday.

More than nine hundred associations, including Caritas, presented a text to the Lower House aimed at regularizing foreigners residing in Spain before November 1, 2021. This would mean legalizing the situation of more than 500,000 people in one go. All parties, except Vox, which voted against and presented an amendment in its entirety, supported taking the rule into account in April.

However, this project remained blocked at the table of Congress, with eight extensions of the deadline for registering amendments, until this Tuesday. After an agreement between the PSOE and Sumar, with a majority in the board of directors of the Lower House, it was decided not to extend it further, so that new modifications can only be registered until this Wednesday at six in the afternoon.

Before the deadline expired, ERC, Bildu and Podemos registered a single amendment, to which this newspaper had access, to regularize all immigrants living in Spain “at the time of entry into force of this rule.”

On the other hand, the PNV registered an amendment in which it also extends the deadline, all those who have resided in Spain until September 1, 2024 could benefit from the law, but with less scope than in the proposal. of the other three parties. The Basque nationalists propose that foreigners in this situation obtain a residence and work permit for the next two years and then have the possibility of requesting it again.
