Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, at a joint summit of the League of Arab States (LAS) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Riyadh, accused Muslim countries of not responding “adequately” to the crisis in the Strip. from Gaza. According to Erdogan, the weak reaction of the Islamic world was one of the reasons for the current situation in the Palestinian territories.
“A handful of Western countries provide full support to Israel, while Muslim states have not responded adequately,” Erdogan said.
It claims that since the start of hostilities on October 7, 2023, 50,000 Palestinians have reportedly died, among whom, as the Turkish president said, the majority are women and children. He also accused Israel of delaying the delivery of humanitarian aid, forcing supplies to wait in Egypt despite the urgent need for assistance.
Erdogan believes that Israel’s actions are aimed at gradually strengthening control over Gaza and completely eliminating the Palestinian presence in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
“We must prevent this,” added the Turkish president.
In his speech, Erdogan also proposed that Muslim countries impose an arms embargo on Israel, stop trading with it and isolate it internationally until hostilities cease. He noted that Türkiye is willing to implement “concrete measures” aimed at putting economic pressure on Netanyahu’s government and recalled the trade restrictions introduced previously.
Erdogan also highlighted that under the current Israeli government, the creation of two states remains impossible and called on more countries to recognize the “State of Palestine.” Furthermore, he called on the countries of the Islamic world to participate in the “Gaza genocide case” before the International Court of Justice.
