Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogay congratulated Prime Minister Kobakhidze on the victory of the Georgian Dream in the elections.
Erdogan noted that the elections, which expressed the will of the Georgian people, were held in a calm and safe environment, according to the Georgian government administration.
“I sincerely congratulate you on the victory of the Georgian Dream party under your leadership and on taking first place in the parliamentary elections held on October 26, 2024. I hope that the results of the elections will bring success to the people of Georgia and our region. “It is pleasing that the elections, which expressed the will of the Georgian people, were held in a peaceful and safe environment.” – Erdogan’s congratulatory speech says.
As reported EADaily the ruling Georgian Dream obtained 53.91% of the votes. Four opposition parties also entered parliament, winning a total of 37.78%. Representatives of the opposition parties declared that they do not recognize the data of the Central Electoral Commission and have no intention of participating in the work of the new convocation of parliament. The opposition demands new elections under “international administration.”
Dissatisfied with the elections in Georgia, the US State Department, as well as 13 other Western countries, issued a joint statement on the “undemocratic” elections in Georgia. Representative of the US Department of State Matthew Miller “They joined calls for a full investigation into electoral irregularities” and called on Georgia to stop “undemocratic actions and return to the Euro-Atlantic path.”
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was the first to congratulate Georgian Dream on its victory, even before the full results from the Central Election Commission were announced. He is now in Tbilisi. This was followed by congratulations from neighbors: the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinian.
