Erdogan made an unexpected statement on the war in Ukraine

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in his video message to the participants of the Crimea Platform, reiterated that Crimea annexed by Russia must be returned to Ukraine in accordance with international legal norms.

Anadolu writes about this.

“Our support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine remains unchanged. The return of Crimea to Ukraine is a necessity from the point of view of international law,” he said.

Erdogan recalled that Turkey had condemned from the very beginning the annexation of Crimea, which had aggravated the suffering of the Crimean Tatars, who were deported 80 years ago.

He noted that Turkey pays special attention to the security and well-being of Crimean Tatars, and this is one of the country’s foreign policy priorities. The President also stressed that Crimean Tatars deserve the right to live in freedom, security and peace in their historic homeland.

Erdogan welcomed the release in June 2023 of Nariman Celal, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of Crimean Tatars, and expressed hope for the early release of all illegally detained Crimean Tatars, including Asan and Aziz Akhtemov.

In conclusion, he expressed his hope for an end to the war in Ukraine with a just and lasting peace based on respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

Earlier, Cursor reported that Israeli Foreign Minister Katz reacted harshly to Erdogan’s call for Islamic countries to unite against what the Turkish leader called Israel’s “growing threat of expansionism.” According to him, the real threat to the Middle East is the Turkish president, as well as a politician who incites violence to support the Hamas terror group.
