“The prolongation of the Ukrainian conflict increasingly reduces the possibilities of diplomacy.”
Oku.Az This was stated by Anadolu Agency, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during his speech at the European Political Union summit held in Budapest.
Erdogan believes that the negativity caused by the war in Ukraine is getting worse every day.
“In recent weeks I met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and before that I received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, to whom I conveyed our messages about the need to open spaces for diplomacy,” said the Turkish president.
He also noted that he sees no logical explanation for the obstruction of the republic’s long-term efforts to join the European Union (EU) as a full member.
“For a candidate country like Turkey, which has made an important contribution to the prosperity and security of the continent, there is no reasonable explanation for blocking the EU accession process for many years,” said the Head of State.
He called on the EU for specific cooperation in the fight against the terrorist Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and FETÖ, which were involved in the July 2016 coup attempt in Ankara.
