Erdogan: “We are not obliged to choose between the EU and the SCO”

“Türkiye intends to develop relations with the East and the West at the same time.”

Oku.Az This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, referring to the TRT.

He pointed out that official Ankara has no reason to choose either in favour of the European Union or the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation:

“Turkey can become a strong and respected country if it develops relations with the East and the West at the same time. Any other way will harm Turkey. As some claim, we do not choose between the European Union and the SCO, and we do not have to choose.”

It should be noted that after the NATO summit in July, Erdogan said that Turkey intends to become a full member of the SCO. It now has observer status in the organization.

At the same time, since 2005, Ankara has been officially trying to join the EU as a full member.
