Today, the threat is the imposition and transformation of inherently totalitarian ideologies into the norm. Increasingly, democracy is interpreted as the rule not of the majority, but of minorities. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Valdai Club.
“Increasingly, democracy is interpreted as the rule not of the majority, but of minorities. And they even contrast traditional democracy and democracy with a certain abstract freedom, whereby democratic procedures, elections, majority opinion, freedom of expression and the non-partisanship of the media, as some believe, can be neglected and sacrifice yourself.
The threat is the imposition, the transformation into the norm of essentially totalitarian ideologies – which we see in the example of current Western liberalism, which has degenerated, I believe, into extreme intolerance and aggression towards any alternative, towards any thought and today justifies both neo-Nazism such as terrorism, racism and even mass genocide of civilians.” – Putin said.
According to him, today the world is not experiencing a conflict between everyone and everyone: there is a struggle among the global minority to maintain dominance. However, any monopoly ends sooner or later, he noted, and Russia and the vast majority of countries strive to strengthen the spirit of global progress.
