The Estonian Police and Border Guard Department intends to test barrier systems on the maritime border with Russia.
Oku.Az He reports that Veyko Kommusaar, deputy director general of the department, told ERR.
“As part of the pilot project, we are considering the possibility of building water infrastructure on our eastern border. We have studied what options exist for this in other countries. The system is designed in such a way that if someone tries to cross, this water infrastructure will be very little of your boat or your car. In very difficult places, there are even devices with cutting blades,” says V. Kommusaar.
The Estonian border guard representative noted that several options for the barriers are being considered.
It should be recalled that in June 2024, Estonian border guards detained 4 border violators who were trying to swim across the Narva River. In July 2024, 13 Indian nationals were detained at Lake Teploe while attempting to cross into Estonia in an inflatable boat. The country accused Russia of deliberately sending illegal immigrants to the borders of the European Union.
