The Fourth Criminal Chamber of the National Court sentenced the ETA member to 85 years in prison Ana Belén Egües after admitting his participation in the attack committed by the terrorist organization on Platerías Street in Madrid on August 8, 2000, which left eleven people injured, seven of them seriously.
The sentence, handed down in accordance with the accused, provides for 70 years in prison for seven crimes of attempted murder and 15 years for the damage caused, among other things, in the property where Pío García Escudero livedformer president of the Senate and at the time organizational secretary of the PP. The bomb was placed next to the entrance of his house.
The Chamber considers as proven the link of the accused Ana Belén Egües with the ETA’s “Buruahuste commando” who was operating in Madrid at the time of the events, as well as its specific participation in the placement and explosion of a bomb installed in a previously stolen vehicle loaded with dynamite and which it had itself transferred to a shelter that the terrorist gang rented in the city of Salamanca.
The magistrates consider that the explosive power “it undoubtedly produced harmful results that could lead to the death of those affected, which did not occur due to circumstances beyond the control of the active subjects of the crime, whose aggressors ensured the result obtained without risk of defense or counterattack by” the victims, by moving the bomb trap contained in the vehicle away from the place of detonation.
She is thus condemned for the attempted murder but also for the damages, given that the explosion created a dangerous situation for the right to compensation and affected a large number of people with serious disruptions in their daily lives.
